I feel like I will be thinking about this book for a long time. Lyster-Mensh writes with such rawness, such authenticity - in this, her pain becomes my pain, and her healing becomes my healing. I think this book should be required reading for anyone who has endured the pain of losing a child through miscarriage, and I also think it will tremendously inspiring for anyone who finds themselves at one of life's many crossroads and is tempted to try to pre-plan instead of allowing (as the author says) "the natural course of things" to unfold in its own way and time.Product details

I admire the honesty and courage the author shows in sharing a personal story that is touched with sadness and exposes raw emotion. A must read.

Beautifully and honestly written. I love Laura's vulnerability, self deprecation and insight to this period of her life. The book is subtitled infertility, adoption and organic living and while all three are addressed, this is mostly a book about infertility. For anyone who has emotionally struggled with infertility, this book will bring comfort in knowing that others have had the same thoughts - as crazy as they may be- and that there is light on the other side of the tunnel. My only disappointment was that Laura didnt write more about her family's decison to pursue adoption, and the process of actually adopting her son. I loved her realization that nature had taken its course and led her right where she was supposed to be. At least I hope that is where she finally got to. The ending felt a bit abrupt and so the move towards adoption was brief. I'm guessing that with her dry sense of humor, more stories about farm living would have some more laughter to the story.
Exquisitely written narrative of struggle, loss, and self discovery. I was deeply moved the authors honest sometimes brutal story of struggle and strength.

Tried to put it down. because it was painful. But I could not, because it was real, true, and griping in its insight and self-reflection. Laura Lyster-Mensh is a fantastic writer. I may make this book required reading for my university class on human reproduction. Can't imaging a better way for students to feel, relate to, and have access to the personal quest to have a child.
For those of us who have struggled with infertility and miscarriage, Lyster-Mensh's wonderful prose captures the crazy thinking and feeling that can surround it. She is a beautiful writer with a rare gift to articulate things that are nearly ineffable but true. I kept having a shock of recognition for something I'd never quite expressed or perhaps understood.
You know the friend of yours who speaks with such honesty and beauty that it makes you a better person, just by being in her presence? If you don't have such a friend, read this exquisite book and you will gain one. Don't expect to answer the phone, make dinner, or do anything else until you've finished it. It is accessible not in the way of being simple, but in the complicated details that describe experiences you may or may not have had, but you have undoubtedly felt. It's hard to write a review of simply amazing writing, so take the time to read the book itself and you will truly feel blessed that it exists and Laura Lyster-Mensh wrote it.
